Lunar New Years 2010 in Cincinnati Events

Whether you call it Lunar New Year, Tet, Chinese New Year, or Korean New Year, it’s all the same celebration. It’s all based on the Moon making its circle around Earth. To many, it’s considered the most important holiday for the Chinese, Vietnamese, and the Koreans. It’s generally a holiday where you spend quality time with your family and pay respect to the elders. However, since it is the New Year, you can’t go without checking out a community celebration!

So, what are you going to do this Lunar New Year? Well, here are a few suggestions around the Greater Cincinnati area:

 

Friday, 2/5: 5:00pm – 9:00pm

Join the GCCCC in the celebration of the 2010 Lunar New Year, Year of the Tiger! The GCCCC’s 2010 Lunar New Year Gala will feature performances by artists from the Sichuan Golden Qiangwei Art Troupe, a Silent Auction, Chinese inspired, gourmet Meal plus great networking opportunities.

 

Friday, 2/12-Sunday 2/14

For many years, the Vietnamese Church has hosted a Tet Celebration. The Vietnamese Community puts on a celebration consisting of a Lion Dance, local singers, food booths, and other Tet vendor booths. The bulk of the festivities take place on Saturday.

Saturday, 2/13 - 10:30pm – 2:30am

Last year, this party brought in a crowd of 600+ plus College Students, young professionals, and the young at heart from Cincinnati, Louisville, Dayton, and Columbus! This year, they are stepping it up, and bringing Roscoe Umali, a Filipino rapper from Los Angeles, and a Lion Dance team from China!

 

Saturday, 2/13 – Dinner at 7pm, Party starts at 9pm

2010 Lunar New Year’s party by the Cincinnati Korean American Association. There will be a dinner and general presentation that starts at 7pm. Party starts at 9pm.

 

Fun Fact: The Lion dance is often confused with the Chinese Dragon Dance, which features a team of around ten or more dancers. The Lion Dance usually consists of two people.
